Creating new blog in Drupal 6

To start off this series on how to use drupal, this drupal blog tutorial will show you how to use drupal modules to build a drupal blog. It is geared toward drupal 6. You will find everything you need to get drupal setup for blogging.
What you need before creating a new blog
This article assumes you already have the following hurdles out of your way:
- You have a web host which supports Drupal 6 and you have purchased a domain name.
- You have installed Drupal 6 successfully. I am currently hosted at greengeeks.com and they have a 1-click (actually more like 2 or 3) Drupal install system. It's called Fantastico, and it's exactly that.
You'll be using a number of drupal modules to assemble your drupal blog.
How to create a drupal blog with drupal modules
Here is what we're going to accomplish, in no particular order:
Configure Drupal for blogging. This one's a quickie. It comes pre-packaged in Drupal 6, but you might not even need it.
An HTML editor. Drupal 6 uses text boxes in its forms, but you want to bold and itemize your drupal blog entries, and you don't want to write a lot of HTML to do it. The CKEditor will do the job nicely.
Web based image editor, file uploader and browser. This browser will integrate with your HTML editor to let you upload images and place them in your drupal blog posts. We'll use IMCE as our browser. It's the only show in town.
Image module. A nice, attractive image will give your drupal blog window dressing. You should never judge a book by its cover, but it will always attract attention.
Become friends with Google.
Install Google Analytics. You'll want to know how many people are reading your drupal blog posts, and you'll want to increase that number as much as you can.
Create a Google Site Map. Give Google a treasure map to all the golden content goodness of your drupal blog, and it will bring a circus of readers with it.
Categorize and tag your posts. These are popular features on Wordpress. You want to place each of your drupal blog posts under clear, pre-defined categories, and you want to describe them with focused, descriptive, searchable tags. You will accomplish this using Drupal 6's taxonomy system.
Add searchable, SEO-able URLs. By default, every web page address in Drupal 6 is a numbered node, eg. "node/1". How can anyone remember that your drupal blog post is about exploding dish detergent was at node/2311? You want to be able to read the addresses of your drupal blog posts, and you want Google to read them too.
Use the ping module. With each new drupal blog post, you can notify blog services such as Technorati that you have new content. Interested readers will be able to find your new content. Drupal 6 sends a message to a service called ping-o-matic, and then it's done. Just enable Ping in your modules list; it ships with Drupal 6.
Enable track-backs. Track backs let you know which fellow bloggers are referring to your drupal blog posts, and it will tell other bloggers when you refer to their blog posts. It helps visitors find other blog posts related to the post they're currently reading. Now we can be a big happy blogging family!
Promote your blog. Writing a drupal blog is useless if no one reads it. And no one will read it if they can't find it. We'll look at ways to promote your new drupal blog and find readers.
