They say a picture's worth a thousand words.
Well, it isn't as far as google's concerned when indexing the text on your site. But a focused image will make your blog post more attractive and inviting to read.
If you've travelled the drupal.org website at all, you've noticed small images and screenshots right aligned with the content, like the one found here. These images were added using the Image Module.
The Image Module includes a number of components, but I think its strongest benefits are:
After you have uploaded the image module to your modules directory, make sure to enable both Image and Image Attach.
Image Gallery and Image Import are useful if you intend on creating an image gallery. I haven't tried this yet.
To configure your image attachments:
Scroll down a bit. You can leave the default image directory and maximum upload size untouched.
Below, you'll see the Original, Thumbnail and Preview settings. Here you can play with the resizing of thumbnails which are displayed in the teaser, the preview which is displayed when you are viewing the content it is attached to, and the original which you can bring up by clicking the preview image.
You'll want to play around with these settings later until you get them right. Particularly, the width needs to be adjusted until you can get the image to fit within the content column of your website theme.
If you scroll back up you'll see the Image attach tab. You can enable or disable image attachments from here. The default setting is enabled.
